Free choice

This is my free choice photo, it uses contrast because the background is very dark where as the person is very light and the contrast is rather sudden which then also directs focus which is also emphasis. The movement in the photo is a huge point of it too with my face looking to the left then also the right a little more faintly so it looks like I just turned. There is also leading lines with the arm leading the eye to the face and then back to cover all of the photo. The concept behind the free choice project was supposed to be about the turning either to or fro your sorrow and as well as the thought of open and closed mindedness.

Home Project

This piece was based around my life at home. Usually when you here about an art piece about the feeling of home its warm and cozy. However I hate home. I hate family. But to narrow it down I hate my family. I hate my home. To the left there are straight edges which have a feeling of strict like qualities. The point of that project was too express what home meant to us and for me it is negative, and feels like walking on egg shells. There are words in some to represent that the things that get said back and forth in my family seems to seep out when an eggshell cracks. I don’t think of happy fuzzy feelings when I think of home, I think negative. I really wanted to do a drawing naturally because that is my main strength but to avoid the over use of mark making for that is not my portfolio I decided on a mixed media piece with very limited drawing materials intended to just enhance the rest. The “Home” piece with the egg shells uses shape with the shape of the eggshells and the shape of the paper strips to the left also playing a big role. It shows line with the lines of the paper strips. There is repetition, present with the many egg shells resembling a lot of the same shapes over again and the paper strips repeated. And lastly leading line with the direction of the eggs leading the eyes from one part of the piece throughout the other.
